Intelligent Collaboration Tools Lab

Bus Factor in Practice

In the first part of the project, we investigated the relevance and importance of the bus factor problem —unexpected developer turnover events disrupting normal workflow — in real-world scenarios. We found it to be a strongly relevant problem for many teams. Modern developer tools, however, provide limited support to mitigating the risk of uneven expertise distribution.

Currently, we are working on bringing the analysis of risky organizational patterns to modern software engineering and project management tools.
